The Trojans will be looking to start 2021 off on a positive note after finishing sixth in the WCAC Tournament December 19, including two second place finishes from Alex Swanson and Matthew Kauffman. Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that he would like to see improvement from his team after the tournament.
“To put it bluntly, I don’t think we showed our capabilities. I think the kids know and understand that. No matter who we go up against, I have certain expectations and they need to have certain expectations of themselves. It doesn’t matter what they are wearing , it just matters who is stepping on the other side of that line. The biggest things we have been working on are going out attacking, fighting and battling.” ....
Pleasantville got swept in their doubleheader at Des Moines Christian, both teams ranked top 3 in the state Friday. The girls dropped to the Lions 51-33, while the boys nearly got doubled up 66-34. The girls lost their fifth game of the season. Malorie McKinney led the team in scoring, as she scored more than half of the Trojans’ points with 17. Adi Adreon was second on the team with six. Coach Jeff Cook tells KNIA Sports that they did turn the ball over too much, but did a good job defending the Lions’ top scorer, Moriah Prewitt. Prewitt scored just ten points, six below her season average. ....

Pleasantville is coming off a split in their last triangular last Tuesday night when they lost to PCM and defeated Sigourney-Keota. The Trojans are currently 2-2 in team matchups, with wins against the Mustangs and Martensdale-St. Mary’s and losses against Southeast Warren/Melcher-Dallas and the Savages. Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that despite the .500 record, he is impressed with the way his team has performed on the mats.
This triangular will be the last before Christmas break for the Trojans. They will have one more individual tournament, which will be the West Central Conference Tournament this Saturday at Pleasantville. The Trojans’ next multi-dual match won’t be until January 16. ....
Coach Heath DeForest tells KNIA Sports that the tournament will not be rescheduled citing that most tournaments are held on Saturdays. Instead, the Trojans will prepare for their next meet, which is triangular at AC/GC High School on Tuesday.
