Abbot's Way School in Meare, near Glastonbury, opened last week
Shapwick School near Bridgwater closed permanently in March 2020 after 45 years. It is understood the school's demise came after protracted financial difficulties and at a point when it was facing the likelihood of losing fee income as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. But staff members Gareth Wright and Hellen Lush decided to open a new school in one of the boarding houses for Shapwick - one that wasn’t involved in the insolvency process.
