The Washburn Fire in southern Yosemite is now 4,779 acres in size, but firefighters have been able to build a containment line around 35 percent of the fire. 1,623 personnel are on the fire that ignited during the afternoon of July 7 near the Washburn Trail in the Mariposa Grove area of the national park.
The Washburn Fire burning at the southern end of Yosemite continues to burn, with firefighters losing some containment overnight. The fire is now 17 percent contained and has burned 3,773 acres. The Electra Fire in Amador and Calaveras counties is now 95 percent contained and is at 4,478 acres.
While the southern entrance to the national park is closed, most of Yosemite’s landmarks remain open and visible.
The Mariposa Grove, Wawona, and the Wawona Hotel and campgrounds are closed due to the Washburn fire. Conditions are smoky.
