Friday, 14 May 2021 The European Cycling Union (UEC) reportedly turned down a request from Denmark to host the Track Elite European Championships, with the organisation maintaining the event will be held in Belarus despite human rights concerns. The UEC said in March that it had been unable to move the event due to a lack of a suitable host. UEC President Enrico Della Casa wrote to the Belarusian Sport Solidarity Foundation (BSSF) saying the organisation was legally contracted to host this event at this time and location and were unable to find another suitable host on this date. The delegated cycling enthusiasts from all over Europe met virtually instead. Next year, Denmark retains the hosting. - I have had two site-inspections in Odense as preparation for the 2021 UEC-congress, and I have experienced the local host s strong dedication and effort in making things work even during the difficult circumstances the pandemic has given us. We would be very sorry to miss out on the opportunity of having our congress at the island of Fyn. Therefore we are pleased that we were able to make a new agreement on Fyn hosting the 2022-congress instead, says the newly elected UEC president, Enrico Della Casa.
