Acura Explains Thinking Behind TSX Type S, Details Engine
The 2021 Acura TLX Type S is currently being shined up in showrooms around the country in the hopes of catching the eye of people that still remember the brand formerly produced a handful of downright excellent performance vehicles. It’s specifically trying to recapture the magic of the TSX — which the rest of the world knew as the fun version of the Honda Accord — and appears to have been built under a similar philosophy.
Rather than committing itself to ludicrous levels of power or an overabundance of attitude, Acura has attempted to deliver a balanced, tasteful luxury vehicle that can still scramble like an egg. While the previous offspring of this mindset made do with roughly 200 horsepower, the TLX Type S produces a much more meaty 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque and recently dropped some additional marketing materials to drive that point home now that it’s on sale.

Acura dealers nationwide are prepping for the arrival of the 2021 TLX Type S, on sale June 23 from $52,300 (minus the destination charge). Fewer than 2,000 units are built for the 2021 model year TLX Type S, so buyers are encouraged to hurry up if they want to see Acura’s best-performing sedan to date parked in their driveway.

There are two available configurations. The entry-level TLX Type S is the one wearing the aforementioned tag, whereas the TLX Type S with the High Performance Wheel and Tire Package costs north of $53,100. What you get in exchange for those extra $800 are NSX-inspired five-spoke wheels, which reduce weight by more than 21 lbs (9.52 kg), as well as Pirelli P-Zero summer tires.

Acura has confirmed pricing for the hotly-anticipated 2021 TLX Type S, the return of the classic performance nameplate and the latest iteration of the well-received sports sedan. Sales kick off on June 23, Acura confirmed today, with pricing for the TLX Type S starting at $52,300 plus $1,025 destination.
Acura had been teasing something affordable ever since it confirmed that a new Type S was coming, though with the specifications promised some had been skeptical as to just how competitive the most potent TLX could actually be. The sedan packs a brand new 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine, specially designed for the Type S, after all.
