The Hoppers (27-20) stayed hot. They re 4-1 against the Drive (24-23) this week heading into Sunday afternoon s series finale, and Greensboro has won 15 of their last 20 games over the last three weeks.

Reading infielder Bryson Stott, Lehigh Valley left-hander Bailey Falter and Lehigh Valley infielder/outfielder Luke Williams have been named Phillies Minor League Hitter, Pitcher and Defender of the Month, respectively, for May.
Stott, 23, posted a .288/.453/.548 slash line, going 21-for-73 with four doubles, five home runs, 10 RBI, 18 runs scored, 22 walks and three stolen bases in 22 games with High-A Jersey Shore in May. He reached base safely in 21 of those 22 games, including each of his final 13. Additionally, Stott led all High-A East hitters in walks during the season’s opening month. He was recently promoted to Double-A Reading and appeared in his first game with the Fightin Phils on June 1. The Las Vegas, Nev., native was selected by the Phillies in the first round (No. 14 overall) of the 2019 MLB Draft.

Minor League stats are back. That still feels good to say after no Minor League Baseball at all in 2020. Every night, there are fresh box scores to check. Every day, the sample size on player stats gets a little bigger. About one month into the season, we’re learning more and more about some of the game’s top prospects with the rising and falling of every sun.
So as the numbers grow (or shrink in some cases), it’s important to get a refresher on how to evaluate Minor League numbers. There is much more nuance at the lower levels than there is in the Majors, where good performance typically follows what’s on the tin. A hitter off to a strong start in the Minors might not be doing so well as the numbers alone would indicate. On the flip side, a pitcher with some rough numbers at a given level could be much more effective than meets the statistical eye. Like we said, nuance.
