Elon Musk has met with executives from leading North American bitcoin miners to discuss concerns over the industry s energy usage. The move comes a couple of weeks after Tesla, for which Musk serves as CEO, suspended bitcoin payments. At the time, the automaker said it was concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions, especially coal, which has the worst emissions of any fuel. Tesla purchased $1.5 billion worth of Bitcoin earlier this year to diversify and maximize its investment. Shortly after that, in March, it started accepting cryptocurrency payments for its electric vehicles. ....

The miners have decided to establish the Bitcoin Mining Council to address BTC sustainability issues.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that he recently met with executives of Bitcoin mining companies in North America over BTC environmental concerns. While announcing the meeting with North American Bitcoin miners on the 24th of May, Musk added that the miners are now “committed to publish current & planned renewable usage & to ask miners WW to do so.” The CEO seemed pleased with the latest development surrounding Bitcoin mining. He noted in the tweet that the miner’s move is “potentially promising.”

Elon Musk changes his tune on bitcoin mining
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies plunged earlier this month after Elon Musk said Tesla would stop accepting bitcoin as payment for its vehicles because of the huge amount of energy needed to mine bitcoin. But Musk might be having a slight change of heart.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO tweeted late Monday that he spoke with bitcoin miners in North America, and they “committed to publish current & planned renewable usage.”
Musk added that these miners will ask their global rivals to do so as well, a development he dubbed “potentially promising.”
Bitcoin prices have stabilized a bit in recent days and are now hovering around $37,000. But that’s a far cry from the all-time high of above $60,000 just last month. ....

Elon Musk and Michael Saylor attended a private meeting with North American bitcoin miners to propel renewable energy use.
Influential CEOs Elon Musk and Michael Saylor have announced that they held a closed meeting with Bitcoin mining firms based in North America that plan to launch a group called the Bitcoin Mining Council which will provide transparency around the types of energy used in the practice and propel it toward more renewable sources.
“Yesterday I was pleased to host a meeting between Elon Musk and the leading Bitcoin miners in North America,” tweeted Saylor, CEO of software intelligence firm MicroStrategy and a strong proponent of Bitcoin. “The miners have agreed to form the Bitcoin Mining Council to promote energy usage transparency and accelerate sustainability initiatives worldwide.” ....
