In a major setback for the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) ahead of the Mizoram assembly polls, Lalrinliana Sailo on Wednesday said that he would join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest the November 7 elections.
Elections to the 40-member Mizoram Assembly will be held in a single phase on November 7 and votes polled will be counted on December 3. Sailo, who won the Chalfilh seat in the 2018 assembly polls, was denied a ticket by the party for the 2023 election to be held in November.
The move from Lalrinliana Sailo comes as he is miffed with the MNF as the party finalised candidates for all the 40 assembly seats last month and denied ticket to him. Sailo was earlier with the Congress. He won four times from Chalfilh assembly constituency.
