Prime Minister Boris Johnson cautioned that the return of all pupils to schools this week will have an impact on the spread of the virus, as there will be an increased risk of transmission. Speaking at a Downing Street press conference on Monday, Mr Johnson urged people to stay at home and continue following the guidelines designed to stop the spread of Covid-19. “With the number of patients being admitted to hospital with Covid each day still around eight times higher than the lows of last summer, it’s more vital than ever to follow the rules,” he said. ....

The infection rates in both boroughs are significantly below the UK average and lower than those in most other local authorities in London. It came as Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled a roadmap out of lockdown in England, which could see all restrictions lifted from June 21. Enfield, which had one of the highest rates in the country at the beginning of January, saw just 72 new cases of the virus per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 17 – a 41 per cent drop compared to the previous week. ....
