Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 10) Those planning to visit the Kalayaan Island Group in the West Philippine Sea should coordinate with authorities first, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Saturday in the wake of Chinese vessels’ reported chase of a Filipino television news crew in the area. 
In a statement, the DFA said the incident, “if proven to be true,” will be raised with the Chinese government.
“In the meantime, the department is thankful that the crew and the Filipino vessel are safe,” the DFA said. ....

MANILA, Apr 10 (Bloomberg): Tensions are escalating over China’s move to mass militia vessels in disputed areas of the South China Sea, with the US and Philippines expressing renewed concern and an investigation underway into reports that armed Chinese navy ships chased down a civilian craft carrying a Filipino news crew.
Local broadcaster ABS-CBN claims the People’s Liberation Army Navy deployed two vessels carrying missiles to drive away the ship as it travelled across reefs and shoals close to the western island province of Palawan. The report adds it was the first recorded instance of a military maneuver against a civilian boat. ....

Chinese navy boats have reportedly harassed a team of Filipino journalists sailing on a boat in a disputed part of the South China Sea, where Manila and Beijing are currently engaged in a stand-off over the presence of a large flotilla of Chinese vessels.
A news team from the Philippines’ ABS-CBN claims that it was chased by two vessels from the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), the first time that a Chinese naval ship has been deployed in such a manner. ....
