Housing Authority promotes wellness Special to McDonough County Voice, USA TODAY NETWORK MACOMB Director Annette Carper said this week that the Housing Authority of McDonough County has received $155,625 in federal CARES funding for COVID-19 prevention and other wellness activities. She said half the money has been spent on constructing physical barriers, buying personal protective equipment, purchasing cleaning supplies and disinfectants, and buying equipment and postage to allow people to work from home. Carper said, The Housing Authority will have a comprehensive health fair at each property in July and August: July 16 at Prairieview.July 30 at Eisenhower Tower in Macomb, and August 6 at Greenbrier Apartments in Bushnell. She said each fair is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public. There are 30 social service agencies scheduled to attend. ....

April 20, 2021 MACOMB, IL On April 6 Western Illinois University s Peace Corps Fellows and the AmeriCorps Program joined Macomb Mayor Mike Inman and local leaders across the country in an annual, nationwide initiative to highlight the impact of national service in tackling local problems. During this year s event, the Peace Corps Fellows and AmeriCorps Program unveiled and dedicated a bench to residents at Prairieview Townhomes in honor of the long-time partnership with the Housing Authority of McDonough County. The bench was a result of much planning, collecting, and sorting of plastic caps in support of Build a Better Block Macomb s Caps to Benches Program. The program offers special thanks to PCFs and full-time AmeriCorps Members, Miranda Lambert and Cortnie Schierman for coordinating the project, and to Dan Curtis, of Habitat for Humanity of McDonough County, for picking up and delivering all of the benches. ....
Rich Egger/file photo Macomb firefighter Dan Meyer began learning a new job on Monday, January 25. He is being trained to become the city s next fire chief. The city council agreed to promote Meyer to the position of transitional chief at an annual salary of more than $73,572, which was the pay for the deputy fire chief before that position was eliminated. Meyer will learn the budget process and be trained in the other duties of the chief. Mayor Mike Inman said the plan is to hire Meyer as chief when current Chief Rick Driskell retires at the end of August. ....
