The Department of Human Services is partnering with partnering with northeastern Pennsylvania county officials to promote that can help residents facing eviction or loss of utilities.
On Thursday, DHS Secretary Teresa Miller was joined by a panel representing organizations and government offices across Lackawanna, Pike, Luzerne, Wyoming and Susquehanna counties to discuss the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, which launched in March with a mission to combat severe financial setbacks and housing crises due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Miller noted that while the pandemic has adversely affected just about everyone, those that fall at or near the poverty line in Pennsylvania have been adversely impacted. Of particular interest are communities of color, which have seen higher rates of infection, serious illness, death, and economic impacts that include difficulty paying rent and keeping up to date on utilities. ....
