Six Tigers Named to All-ACC Academic Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Six Clemson University men’s basketball student-athletes, Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake), RJ Godfrey (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett), Joseph Girard III (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls), Bas Leyte (Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands), Josh Beadle (Columbia, S.C./Cardinal Newman), Jack Clark (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) earned All-ACC Academic Team recognition for their performance on the court and in the classroom this season, announced today by Commissioner Jim Phillips. Academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0-grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Graduate students must have an undergraduate and graduate career minimum grade point average of 3.0 as well as minimum 3.0 GPA during the most recently completed semester. LOS ANGELES – Clemson men’s basketball’s historic NCAA Tournament run came to an end on Saturday night, as the No. 6 Tigers fell to the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide 89-82 in the Elite Eight inside the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.  Clemson was led offensively by Joseph Girard III (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls), who finished the game with 19 points, including 17 in the second half, highlighted by five second-half threes. Ian Schieffelin (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds, good for his 11th double-double of the season. PJ Hall (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) tallied 14 points before fouling out, while Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake) added 12 and a team-high five assists. RJ Godfrey (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) also finished with 12 points. LOS ANGELES – Chase Hunter (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake)’s three-point play with 25 seconds remaining put the Tigers up five and helped hold off a late run by No. 2 seed Arizona (27-10), as No. 6 seed Clemson prevailed 77-72 inside the Crypto.com Arena to advance to the second NCAA Elite Eight in program history. The Tigers (24-11) are the first to advance to the West Regional final. Clemson led for 37:02 in the game and trailed for just 20 seconds, while the game was tied twice.  Arizona cut the lead to two with under a minute remaining, but the Tigers used the three-point play from Hunter to push the lead back to five.
