The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads opened outdoor season action over the weekend (March 22-23), competing at the Lee University Invitational in Cleveland, Tenn.

The Bulldogs had a selected number of student-athletes take part in the opening event of the outdoor season.

FSU's Aaron Pierce won the long jump (20-9) while Devin Dennison took third in the hammer throw (165-9). Cooper Sorsen placed fifth in the 10,000 meters (31:23.81) while Brendan Cairney came in seventh in the same race (32:03.31).

Hunter Richardson placed 10th in the shot put (39-11.25) on the men's end with Blaine Rogers 11th in the 110-meter hurdles (15.82).

For the women, FSU's Claudia Wilkinson came in fourth in the high jump (5-2.25) while Nyah Tyron came in fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.99).

Rebecca Marvin was fifth in the discus (109-11), seventh in the shot put (36-6.25) and 16th in the hammer throw (127-10).

FSU's Angela Kotecki took sixth place in the 400 hurdles (1:12.14) and Abigail Winkle wound up sixth in the 400 meters (59.55) while Daisey Englund finished ninth in the 800 meters (2:23.12) with Ella Kowatch 13th in the event (2:25.04).

Hanna Brock was 11th in the 5,000 meters (17:43.00) while Isabel Dziadzio finished 12th in the javelin (82-9). Lacey Zimmerman was 15th in the 100 meters (12.70) and Whitney Farrell placed 16th in the 5,000 meters (17:58.10).

The Bulldogs will head to the Hilltopper Relays March 29-30 in Louisville, Ky.

The Ferris State University men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up action in the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Sunday (Feb. 25) in University Center.

The annual league championships were hosted by Saginaw Valley State and the Bulldog men's team placed sixth with 34 points while the women tied for seventh place overall with 27 points in the final standings.

Ferris State's Claudia Wilkinson won the league title in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.83 meters.

FSU's Danae Feldpausch came in third overall in the finals of the women's mile run (4:53.81) and Hanna Brock placed 11th in the same event (5:11.14). Whitney Farrell took ninth place in the 3,000 meters (10:12.94) and Rebecca Marvin was ninth in the shot put (11.46m).

The Bulldogs' Chase Carter finished as the runner-up in the 60 meters (6.87) and also finished fifth in the 200 meters (22.21).

Meanwhile, Cooper Sorsen was fifth overall in the 3,000 meters (8:29.41).

Blaine Rogers took seventh place in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles (8.65) and Gavin Vansolkema took eighth in the mile run (4:19.15) finals. Ben Dousuah took 10th place in the shot put (13.58m) and Hunter Richardson came in 11th (12.78) in the shot. Levi Tuinstra placed 11th in the high jump (1.78m).

FSU's Ryan Kachnowski placed 10th in the mile (4:24.73). In addition, Kevin Wilson finished 10th in the 800 meters (1:59.13) and Lucas Vandam was 11th (1:59.70) in the same race.

Ferris State was also fifth in the men's 4x400-meter relay (3:27.55) and seventh in the women's 4x400-meter relay (4:07.96).

The Ferris State University men's and women's track and field squads competed on Friday (Jan. 26) at the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by Grand Valley State in the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale.

The annual meet included top competition from schools at various levels.

The Bulldogs' Claudia Wilkinson was the runner-up in the high jump (5-4.5) for the Bulldog women's team. Rebecca Marvin placed third in the weight throw (47-1.50) and was seventh in the shot put (39-1).

FSU had a strong finish in the women's 5,000 meters with Hanna Brock taking third place (17:55.11) followed by Whitney Farrell in fourth (18:10.59) and Melanea Strauss in sixth (18:23.32).

Becci Castillo came in sixth in the women's one mile open run (5:21.97), Abigail Winkle placed eighth in the 400 meters (58.91) and Denae Feldpausch finished ninth in the women's one mile run invite field (5:04.62). Castillo was also ninth in the 3,000 meter open division (10:48.72).

Meanwhile, in men's action, the Bulldogs' Gavin Vansolkema was fourth in the men's one mile open run (4:22.58) and Cooper Sorsen was fourth in the 5,000 meters (15:05.48) while Chase Carter finished fifth in the 60 meters (6.95). Blaine Rogers finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.62).

FSU's Ben Dousuah finished fifth in the men's shot put (44-2) with Hunter Richardson coming in seventh (42-2.25) in the same event. Devin Dennison was third in the weight throw (48-5.50).

The Bulldogs will next compete back in Allendale at the annual GVSU Big Meet on Feb. 9-10.
