In a truly remarkable turn of events, thieves have returned almost all of the pieces of a 10-foot-long red thumbtack art sculpture they took from a Hickory art gallery more than a week ago.
The 10-foot sculpture is a staple of the ATAC Gallery. The 40-pound bright red thumbtack was stolen on the night of Feb. 27 and returned around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.
Someone in a white truck was seen on camera dropping off the pieces. The tip is still missing.
