Lansing lawmakers are debating the conditions under which Michigan public schools will be funded next year. The Senate has approved a proposal to ensure all districts reopen classrooms for face-to-face instruction. But given the weaknesses exposed in the public school system and the challenge of helping students who fell behind during the pandemic, it isn’t enough to simply return schooling to normal. Buhler will return to in-person classes on Jan. 11, if the gating criteria permits. Buhler Superintendent Cindy Couchman wrote to parents, “The goal of going to Flex Learning is to allow 10 days after the holiday gatherings to contain the virus spread by providing 10 days to get your circle small. We anticipate many will be widening your circle over the holidays with extended family and friends.” Couchman is asking parents and staff to use the 10 days from Jan. 1- 10 to distense themselves from large groups and  return to a small circle of friends and family.
