West Branch student honored for cancer fundraising

Thirteen-year-old Gavin Clay was awarded the 2021 Inspired Youth Award, for his commitment to supporting research to find cures for childhood cancer. 
Clay has been involved in the St. Baldrick s Foundation since his Louisville City Schools classmate DJ Patterson was diagnosed with Ewing s Sarcoma. Clay s efforts over three years have led to more than $32,000 in donations in honor of Patterson, who died in 2019.     
Clay is a resident of Louisville who now attends West Branch Middle School, where his mother Krista teaches music. Clay s fundraising team kept his hometown s identity with the name Constitution Cancer Crushers, after Louisville s status as the Constitution City. ....

West Branch man claimed he "wasn't going to drive" despite being behind wheel of running car when arrested for OWI

A West Branch man who reportedly was passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle claimed he wasn’t going to drive when arrested for OWI.
Officers observed 22-year-old Jordan Davis of Delta Avenue parked behind the wheel of a 2011 Chevy in the 100 block of South Gilbert Street Saturday at 4:05am. They made contact with him when it appeared that he was passed out.
Davis allegedly said that despite the fact that the vehicle’s motor was running, and his seatbelt was fastened, he did not intend to drive. Davis reportedly had bloodshot watery eyes, impaired speech and balance, and had the odor of ingested alcohol. He also had bar wristbands on, admitted to drinking, and showed impairment on field tests. ....
