Police special retires after 30 years of service Ian Walby A police special who has dedicated over 100,000 hours over to serving his community is set to retire on Saturday. Special Inspector Ian Walby has spent 30 years as a special officer, starting his career as a special constable in 1991. As inspector Ian over saw volunteer policing for West Cumbria, which at one point had over 60 officers of varying ranks. During his time as a special Ian has given around 10,000 hours to the constabulary and also volunteered in other areas of the constabulary and worked around 100 hours as one of the first leaders for the police cadets. ....
