Week. let s get to meteorologist pedram javaheri. john and alison good morning to you both on this 52nd and final wednesday of 2016. as you look at the northern tier, temperatures generally above freezing. from minnesota and of course around the great lakes. the great lakes themselves about 3% ice coverage which is rather low for this time of year. but you take a look, we do have changes in patterns in winner weather advisories in new york. and as a result of this storm system that is slated to come in some time late tonight and early tomorrow morning. snow showers begin just around sunrise around western new york and parts of new england and continue through much of thursday before the disturbance scoots off here. but should produce plenty of snow showers. the best estimation at this point, portions of vermont, new hampshire even parts of maine, 1 1/2 to maybe 2 feet in the highest elevations of fresh snowfall through friday. ....
The significant ice melting is a major problem for a lot of parts of the u.s. with frozen water. look at the great lakes of the u.s. this was 88% ice coverage as of about a week and a half ago. it is down to 68%. so the ice even on the lakes melting very quickly. all of this of course leading to a lot of fog. so if you re traveling across the u.s. it will be very foggy. there s also these ice bolders around the cape cod area that washed up on the beach. it s an indication of the brutal weather. plenty of snow on the ground in new england. thanks pedron. parents had an unexpected surprise on tuesday at a fashion ....
It s incredibly deep and full of debris. well, a massive wild fire is burning south of anchorage, alaska. there s ice in lake superior, it s just craze sid weather. the ice coverage is down to about 1%, guys, from the 90 plus percent that we ve seen. it s interesting, because the temperatures have warmed up well into the 90s fahrenheit in spots, at least, but the ice is still on the water areas in spots. i want to show you what s happening in southern alaska. a widespread area. some 175,000 acres of land have been charred across this region. what is now the community impacted about a three hour drive south of anchorage. a video coming out to show you the expansive nature of this. of course, you begin to approach the summer months. ....
Coldest temperature ever in the month of march. the snowstorm in the mid-atlantic and this morning, dealing with more cold. the great lakes ice cover is what it looks like in the fall from outer space on a nice clear day. here is how it looked yesterday across the great lakes. about 86% covered in ice. can you see only a little bit of open water on lake ontario and tiny bit in lake michigan. it s going to be a while. record ice coverage for this late in the year. current temperatures cold in the northeast. at least it s not windy. we are cold down in texas. we are 27 in dallas. we do have freezing rain out there this morning and some sleet. austin to brian, texas, the houston area. this is texas in march! we shouldn t be dealing with this! not used to that. another cold day. a slow warm-up. unless you re in florida, that s about the only warm spots out there. if only we could all be in florida right about now. i think in march it triples ....
