Reynato (Rene) Rodillas’ death on behalf of Bishop Solis and the priests of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Fr. Rodillas tested positive with the COVID-19 virus on Jan. 5 and was sent home from the emergency room with oxygen to quarantine and to recover at home, Msgr. Bircumshaw said in his announcement, adding that the date of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner, but that it was probably on Jan. 8.

Father Reynato Rodillas, 58, was pastor of St. James the Just in Ogden at the time of his death. He tested positive for the coronavirus Tuesday, according to the obituary. He was sent home from an emergency room with oxygen to recover and quarantine. The date of his death hasn’t been officially determined but it was likely Friday. Rodillas was born in Ilocos Sur, Philippines. He earned a civil engineering degree from the University of Northern Philippines before entering the Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay City, Philippines. He came to Utah in 2007 and served in West Valley, Bountiful, St. George and Midvale.

Reynato (Rene) Rodillas Dear brother priests, religious sisters, deacons and wives, seminarians, principals, staff and lay faithful, On behalf of Bishop Solis and the priests of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, I am saddened to announce the sudden death of Father Reynato (Rene) T. Rodillas.  He had tested positive with the COVID-19 virus on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, and was sent home from the emergency room with oxygen to quarantine and to recover at home. Date of death has yet to be determined by the medical examiner, but was probably on Friday, January 8, 2021.  He was 58 years old, soon to turn 59 this month.
