Telongjem FC beat MMSC to lift MDFA Trophy again

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 26 (EMN): A top notch free kick from forward Bapin Yemjon gave Telongjem a 2-1 win over Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club (MMSC) in the Mokokchung District Football  Trophy  final to claim the major title for the second consecutive time  at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Wednesday. Bapin’s 74th minute set piece was enough to upset the stubborn MMSC who were determined to go the extra mile with 1-1, just a few minutes away to 90 minutes. MMSC was going to suffer a blow in the starting minutes when goalkeeper Imsutoshi unintentionally landed outside the D-box and caught the ball; luckily the referee awarded only a yellow. A free kick was given but Telongjem failed to capitalise. Notable midfielder Pursunep opened the scoring for Telongjem in the 18 minute of the game with a professional finish, moments after Yhunshalo Kemp missed a golden chance inside the danger zone.  Pursunep dodged the defense via a wall pass assisted by Kemp to end the first half 1-0. However, that was cancelled out by Jongshiwati, who fired in an equaliser from long range right after the break minutes and pushed back the opponent’s counter with more zeal. But the moment...

MDFA: Defending champions Telongjem FC book final berth

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 26 (EMN):  Defending champions Telongjem FC have entered the final of the MDFA Trophy 2022 with a convincing 3-0 victory against Mongsenbai in the semifinal match at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Tuesday. A soaked pitch and poor visibility played spoil sport time and again throughout the match but the rival teams endured to play out the decisive game for the final spot.      The game started on an equal footing and ball possession from both sides. However, the hopes of trophy contenders Mongsenbai were dashed after their goalkeeper Sashikumba was shown the red card ten minutes before the first half whistle. Under heavy pressure from attacking rivals, Sashikumba decided to clear the ball outside the D-box, which resulted in a hand block and the referee gave him the marching orders. Telongjem came out strong in the second half and after a few attacks, Pursunep opened the team’s account with a delicate free-kick in the 53rd minute. Four minutes later, Yhunshalo Kemp converted a penalty. Nagaland’s U-17 Subroto Cup skipper Bapen Yimjong, who came into the match as a half-time substitute, also made his statement on the pitch. He made a brilliant run outflanking the defenders and...

MDFA: MMSC defeat Longpa Lomuden in penalty shootout to enter final

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 22 (EMN): Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club (MMSC) got the better of Longpa Lomuden 5-4 via tie-breaker in the first semifinal match of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) trophy 2022 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Saturday. The lively and entertaining contest finished in a goalless draw and in the resultant penalty shootout, MMSC scored their first five attempts. Molutsupong, Temsutoshi, Limakumzuk, Imsumanen and Inovi Chishi made no mistake from the spot to secure MMSC a place in the finals. MMSC dominated the first half, committing many offences in search of a leader, but a five-man Longpa defence proved impenetrable. Longpa Lomuden had a fantastic defensive attitude throughout the game, trouncing the fast-paced MMSC side and impressing the fans. Starting the second half, Longpa Lomuden’s coach Imna’s incantation of “fast play” to his players appeared to have influenced them as the Longpa side went on to give a competition to the side making notable shots on target, but the likes of MMSC’s Molutsupong, Inovi Chishi, Limakumzuk, and captain Rongsennungba kept the Longpa side at bay. The teams headed to the tiebreakers after a grueling 90-minute plus14 minutes extra time tussle in search of a final...

MDFA: Defending champions Telongjen FC blank OCYU 6 - 0

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 21 (EMN): Defending champions Telongjen FC frustrated OCYU in a 6-0 thriller on Friday to book a semi-final berth at the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2022 played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung. Despite the absence of their scoring machine Yhunshalo Kemp, Telongjen’s playmakers Kakevi Assumi, Supnglemba and Sentilong scored a brace each to bring OCYU players to their knees. In the initial stage of the match, OCYU kept their defense line intact and thwarted Telongjem’s offensive. However, Kakhevi Assumi made a breakthrough in the 25th minute via a superb header through a rebound from Purwati’s strike. Two minutes later, he scored a brace courtesy a penalty kick award after his teammate Lanutoshi was challenged by OCYU defender. A spirited Suponglemba went on to score in the 33rd and 44th minutes, with assists from Kakhvai and Imkongnunsang to take the scoreline to 4-0 before the break. The second half saw OCYU putting up a stiff resistance to Telongjem’s onslaught but they could not contain Sentilong who went to deliver two successive goals in the 73rd and 80th minutes. MDFA: MMSC beat Sparious FC 8-0 to book semifinal berth

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 19 (EMN): Ruthless Moangnungsang Memorial Sporting Club (MMSC) humiliated Sparious 8-0 in the second quarter final match to book a berth in the semifinals of the Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) trophy at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Wednesday. MMSC striker Chubangnen did not expend much time tip-toeing the ball around the field to accomplish an astounding hat-trick before the break.  Bendangnukshi who was introduced before half time because of Mayasenba’s sustaining injury also went for a brace while Molutsupang, Yashimeren and Inovi Chishi grabbed a goal each to propel MMSC to the semifinals. Senior player Chubangnen, who entered as first eleven players in today’s match, came with a well planned intention to do real business for his team. He opened the scoring in the 21 minute of the game when the opponent’s goalkeeper made a huge blunder and gifted a howler. MMSC who dominated the game from the start throbbed on the field and kept creating chances but were denied and the game remained stagnant for a moment after the 1-0 lead. However, Chubangnen again levelled up the score sheet striking a long range goal in the 34 minute.  One minute later Molutsupong expertly drilled...

MDFA Trophy 2022: Sparious FC through to quarter final

Our Correspondent Mokokchung, Oct. 15 (EMN): After conceding 21 goals in two matches in the league round, Sparious FC managed a quarterfinal playoff by default from Pool D in the ongoing MDFA Trophy 2022. Sparious conceded a humiliating defeat in their previous encounter with Telongjem FC but they did not learn much from their previous match and received another thrashing blow from Telongjem FC 11-1 at the Imkongmeren Sport Complex on Saturday. Yhunshalo Kemp demonstrated his beast mode, recording a double hat trick in today’s match. Kemp is currently leading as the highest scorer with a tally of 12 goals in two matches. Play makers Kakhevi Assumi, Pursunep, Purakum, Lanutoshi Longchar and Temjenwapang Kichu also made their mark by collecting a goal each while a consolation goal was scored by Sparious’ Samuel in the 59th minute due to defender mishap ending the match 11-1. Despite miserably losing both matches to Telongjem FC, Sparious FC still got a shot to go to the quarterfinal by default due to only two clubs in Pool D.
