Not very long lasting. even though it will keep you out of the hospital, once you get that third immunization, it goes from 70% to 75% protective against symptomatic illness according to new data from the uk government, but it descends quickly down to 30% protection after a couple months. yes, it is saving your lives, but the numbers are going to keep a lot of health care workers out of the work force. that s our vulnerability, the weak link. people are still getting sick and going into hospitals. health care workers at home unable to come into work. how we fix that, that s the most important message we need to hear from the white house today. they are making troops available on request to help out, to help with sagging systems. it s a mixed bag. i spoke to a doctor from cleveland last night who says they re in crisis mode already. they re overwhelmed and exhausted. however, a few minutes ago, we spoke to michael dowling, who runs one of the major hospital systems in new york state, ....

Displaced by omicron, it is still lingering and moving alongside omicron. delta is still with us. omicron, of course, is accelerating. this is the most transmissible variant of concern we ve seen by a lot. delta was more transmissible than alpha. alpha more than the original lineage. covid is almost up there with measles at this point with transmissibility. this will circulate at a level we ve never seen before and possibly linger in the atmosphere for periods of time. then the third piece is the vulnerability of our health care work force. even if they re vaccinated, we know that two doses really does nothing for symptomatic infection. with omicron, in terms of actually getting sick, but it is the severity of illness. when you get the third immunization, and this is an important point because a lot of health care workers have gotten their booster, the protection is ....

To many health care workers falling out sick, and so the one question that i have asked, in the los angeles times over the, weekend is should we give them a fourth immunization, the second, booster least offer it to them, so they have the option, in order to raise up their virus neutral, and get the antibodies, and keeps them in the workforce, for that short period of time. i made that recommendation. we will at least look into it and see if what the presidents remarks are tomorrow. i kind of doubt, it but i think it s something worth considering. you health care workers have been our frontline and our protectors and our defenders and our savior since the beginning of this thing. it would be hard to see losing some of these people. not just from the workforce possibly because they re exhausted by. it because they should not be happening right now. peter, thanks as always for joining, us doctor peter hotez, probably one of the smartest on this topic. ....

Should be a change to whether they are in isolation or in quarantine for, you know, the duration that is currently ten days. could that be shortened? dr. fauci suggests maybe that s something to consider. let s listen. if you do have someone infected, rather than keeping them out for seven or ten days, if they are without symptoms, put an n 95 mask on them. make sure they have the proper ppe and might be able to get back to work sooner than the full length of the kwquarantine period. dr. hotez, is that a solution or risky. there is risk. it may have merit. i know mike osterhome made that suggestion as have others. that s worth considering. i proposed something different altogether, which is because of that waning immunity, if we could give the health care providers a second booster dose, meaning a fourth immunization, ....

Got vaccines, we ve got some therapeutics, they re certainly on the horizon, and we still have test and trace, tell me how this all shakes down for you over the course of the next month. how do you think we use this effectively to try to get a handle on this? the vaccines are still our mainstay in this. we know that we can largely prevent hospitalization and death if we can get people fully vaccinated, and then boosted. that s problem number one. what we re doing about 60% of the country, is fully immunized, i really don t considered fully immunized till they ve gotten the boosted, and that s only about a third that s been boosted as well, i think really trying to convince people to understand that they need that third immunization, to elevate their antibodies to keep them out of the hospital, in the intensive care, unit that s gotta be top priority, the diagnostics. we still talk about diagnostics like it s march of 2020, you ....
