Boulder County held a virtual community meeting Monday to discuss the latest with an underground coal mine fire that has burned for decades, as it prepares to begin mitigation efforts this fall.
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety will soon begin mitigation of the Lewis Coal Mine Fire underground near Superior, Boulder County said.
The state plans to start mitigation work this fall on the underground coal mine fire at the Lewis site, located northeast of the intersection of Marshall and Cherryvale roads in Boulder County.
