A worrying new study has highlighted that up to 78 per cent of beachgoers in Aotearoa New Zealand are unable to spot rip currents (rips) in the surf, increasing the risk that they may inadvertently end up caught in one.
On average, five people fatally drown in rip currents on our beaches each year and a further 700 people require rescue.
The study, conducted as part of a collaboration between Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) and beach safety experts at the Universities of Canterbury, Auckland, Waikato, and UNSW Sydney, found that most beachgoers were unable to accurately identify rips. ....

The Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka having considered the possible adverse impact on liquidity and other key performance indicators of licensed commercial Banks and licensed specialised banks due to the covid-19 outbreak and the importance of maintaining appropriate levels of liquidity and capital buffers have issued a set of direction for restriction on discretionary- payments of licensed banks.
Therefore, licensed banks are directed for the following;
1. Defer payment of dividends until the financial statements of 2020 are finalised and audited by its external auditor.
2. Shall defer repatriation of profits not already declared for financial years 2019 and 2020 until all the financial statements of 2020 are finalised and audited by its external auditor. ....

SINGAPORE, Jan 24 (Bloomberg): Singaporeans should toss their yusheng raw fish dish into the air quietly in the traditional lohei celebration as they usher in the Year of the Ox, according to measures the government announced to keep a lid on the virus pandemic.
