With multiple lockdowns and the shift to many people working from home and workplaces becoming more flexible and adaptable over the past year, many people s attitudes to what pop philosopher Alain de Botton refers to
as the pleasures and sorrows of work has shifted dramatically. Work is a four-lettered word, and workers are becoming increasingly aware of burnout and the quest for more meaningful work.
This is the first novel translated into English (by Polly Barton) from the Japanese by Osaka-based writer Kikuko Tsumura. It s been compared to acclaimed books My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh and Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata – and, like those novels, it will chime with anyone suffering late-capitalism fatigue, workplace burnout and employment precarity anxiety. ....

Julie Pace, a reporter with the Associated Press, said in an interview at the start of the week that the Biden administration has no plan in place to deal with President Joe Biden’s border crisis and that migrants are reading his policies as an open invitation to come to the U.S.
When asked by host Chris Wallace if Biden had a plan to get his border crisis under control, Pace responded, “Well, they don’t have a plan at the moment to get this under control.” ....

Associated Press Washington Bureau chief Julie Pace argued on this week’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday” that President Joe Biden did not have a plan for the surge underway on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Based on that, Pace said migrants think they have an open invitation.
Anchor Chris Wallace said, “The Department of Homeland Security put out a report this week, it wasn’t put out to the public, but it was leaked that they are now projecting 117,000 unaccompanied minors that are going to cross the border this year. Way over what we thought was a very serious surge in 2019. Is that sustainable for the Biden White House to say, well, it’s not a crisis, it’s a challenge, we are managing it, and more importantly, do they really have a plan to get this under control?” ....

Loan Market mortgage advisor Craig Pope said while a 20 per cent deposit was not always necessary, family assistance for first-home buyers was becoming more common.
