The carbon footprint of electric cars in India is larger than that of hybrid cars due to the country's reliance on coal for 75% of its electricity, according to R.C. Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki Ltd. He suggested that electric cars will only be clean once India obtains at least 50% of its electricity from renewable sources.
