Ephrata schools defeasing bonds due to inflation

EPHRATA – The Ephrata School District is moving forward with the process to defease a nearly $28 million bond approved by voters in 2019, said Superintendent Tim Payne in a Monday morning interview.

“Where we’re at in the process is the board had a hearing,” Payne said. “You have sort of changed the bond away from its intended purpose, (so) you have to go through the same process (as the initial approval) whether you’re defeasing or you’re gonna say, ‘Gosh, we couldn’t build that building now.’”

WCSO sergeant on administrative leave after arrest on suspicion of DUI

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jason Wood is on administrative leave after he was arrested Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence for the second time.
He faces two additional charges of speeding over the posted speed limit and improper lane change, according to court records. Wood is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on May 13.
The criminal investigation is being handled by Reno police, said WCSO Public Information Officer Sarah Johns. Additional personnel action may be taken pending the outcome of WCSO's internal investigation. He is also being placed in another division within the sheriff's office.
"The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office does not condone this alleged behavior. Sheriff Balaam has made it very clear that we are a family and are here for one another – meaning we are always one call away.  A phone call to a trusted friend or a rideshare or taxicab for a ride home is always a person’s best option," Johns said in an emailed statement.
