The European Union has offered Armenia an aid package of over $3 billion, 62 percent more than previously promised, in the wake of fair elections and as the country tries to recover from defeat in the war with Azerbaijan last year.
The new aid package will total 2.6 billion euros over five years, or $3.1 billion, EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi announced in Yerevan on July 9. That s 1 billion more euros than the EU had offered in an earlier draft proposal.
The aid is part of a package for the EU s six post-Soviet Eastern Partnership countries, though Armenia s share far outweighs what many other countries will receive. Ukraine - with a population of 44 million compared to fewer than 3 million in Armenia - and which has signed an Association Agreement with the EU, is getting 1.9 billion euros. Azerbaijan is getting 140 million euros. ....

Armenia updates railway fleet

YEREVAN, MAY 26, ARMENPRESS. 27 new passenger wagons will be imported to Armenia by July to replenish the railway system, with another three new electric trains expected to be brought during the year, the caretaker Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Suren Papikyan said during a visit to Shirak province. The trains will supplement the active train fleet of the Yerevan-Gyumri route. The updated fleet will be used to launch railway transport spanning across the entire rail system – to Yeraskh and to Gyumri. Papikyan said the investments in this direction were planned for the following 15 years, but most part of it is being successfully implemented during 2021-2024. ....

Yerevan Assures Iran 'Corridor' Issue Will Never be Discussed by Armenia

Yerevan gave assurances to Iran that the issue of creating a “corridor” with Azerbaijan has not been and will never be discussed by Armenia, during talks on Monday between Armenia’s Acting Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Iran’s Urban Development Minister Mohammad Eslami, who is visiting Armenia.
Grigoryan who is also Armenia’s representative on a commission to open borders with Azerbaijan as mandated by the November 9 agreement briefed Eslami on the efforts to what is being called the “unblocking of regional transport communications.” ....

YEREVAN, JANUARY 20, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan and Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Suren Papikyan will visit Syunik province to get acquainted with the problems which emerged after the recent war.
“Next week I, Mr. Papikyan and several deputy ministers will visit Syunik because there are issues connected with pastures, economic activity. Syunik will be under the special focus”, Avinyan said during a Q&A session in the Parliament.
He added that the government will adopt a new anti-crisis economic package probably next week, which will suppose new tools for restoring the post-war and the post-COVID-19 economy. ....
