NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Department of Treasury’s Criminal Injuries Compensation Program has paid more than $350 million to victims of violent crime in Tennessee since the program’s inception in 1982.
Next week is National Crime Victims' Rights Week in the U.S., and the Tennessee Treasury is aiming to raise awareness of victims' rights.
The Office of the Attorney General has received a $500,000 grant to improve access to victims services, according to a news release from the office.
More than $71,000 has been awarded to victims of violent crimes and their families.
April 24-30 is National Crime Victims' Rights Week, and in recognition of that, the Tennessee Department of Treasury announced that its Criminal Injuries Compensation Program has paid more than $344 million to victims over the past 40 years. The program was begun in 1982.
