While social media platforms are nearly never in sync, the topic of mental health took them over on Thursday.
Thursday was the annual #BellLetsTalk day, where the corporation makes donations to mental health initiatives based on how many times the hashtag is shared on different platforms.
Over the years the trend has grown, and many have started telling personal stories of mental health issues, depression, anxiety and suicide.
The local chapter of the Canadian Mental Health Association has had a busy 12 months in the city and is continuing to make educational programs available to Hatters. ....

The Inner Man Project moves to its community centre

When it was founded in September The Inner Man Project gave men in the community a virtual place to go for mental health support and to raise awareness of the issue.
Four months later, they have a physical place to call their own. The Inner Man Project has its own community centre at 6 941 South Railway St.
Co-founder Dylan Eckes says it’s huge for the group to have the space.
“On average we have 30-40 people coming into our peer sessions every week,” he says. “We have two or three counsellors now that basically show up to the peer sessions if anybody needs to talk. They use this space or one of the offices to do their appointments and a lot of these counsellors are doing it volunteer basis so we want to give the space to help each other out.” ....

A local nurse has come up with an invention to help those wearing masks all day.
Matthew Jubelius is one of the many frontline workers in the Hat who wears a mask for their entire work day. He says Ear Savers make it a lot easier.
“I had a first responder come to me, his name is Mr. Lutz, and he told me that everyone has really sore ears,” said Jubelius. “He went on to say that it was actually making the job harder for them to do. ....

A group of Alberta dads has created a special calendar featuring fathers from around the province strutting their stuff to raise money for the Alberta Father Involvement Initiative.
Founded in 2009, the Alberta Father Involvement Initiative promotes the responsible involvement of fathers and father figures in children s lives.
We just wanted to do something good to help out community, organizer Patrick Jean told CTV Morning Live Edmonton. With everything that s been going on, we figured this might put a smile on people s faces.
Jean, who is also Mr. September in the 12-month calendar, said the idea first came up as a joke in a Facebook group but he decided to run with it. ....
