Charleston: Community MLK painting donated to library | Kanawha Valley

A piece of art made by the community was given back to the community Monday, March 25, 2024, at the main branch of the Kanawha County Public Library.

During the January Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at Charleston’s Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, community members helped paint a mural of King surrounded by women. The painting, finished by local artist Ian Bode, is displayed on the library's third floor.

The piece, sponsored by the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, was facilitated by the Charleston-Institute Chapter of The Links, a service organization made up of Black women.

Summary
Frontline health care providers around the world have gone too long unrecognised and uncompensated, and only through a global pandemic have their efforts become widely valued as critical not only to physical and mental wellbeing, but the health of our economies and wider sectors.
Covid-19 has forced organisations, governments, ministries of health and centres of disease surveillance and control to timely think and act creatively about interventions, programmes and projects that can be tailored to contain the spread of the virus and, ultimately, reduce life loss.
