Gills' South Park subdivision wins initial approval as some fret over losing local control


A draft bill that some see as threatening “local control” loomed large over the County Commission’s vote Tuesday in favor of the Gill family’s 26-acre development in northern South Park.
The Teton County Board of County Commissioners voted 4-1 in favor of the Gills’ sketch plan, a conceptual regulatory approval that precedes hearings on more concrete development and subdivision plans on the path to breaking ground. The family praised the decision.
“Today’s vote further solidifies our family’s commitment to the northern South Park neighborhood plan, water quality and workforce housing,” Nikki Gill wrote in a text to the News&Guide. “We have been here for more than 100 years, and we will be here for 100 more. We look forward to working hard alongside the community as we move forward with the Northern South Park plan to create a neighborhood we can all be proud of.” ....

Edith Garland Dupré library recieves grant to host discussions about voter fraud


On March 10, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Edith Garland Dupré Library will be hosting “Who Gets to Vote? Conversations on Voting Rights in America,” a four-day virtual community book reading. The event will take place via Zoom and will last from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. every week.
“The purpose of this series is to prompt a discussion of voting in America and address some questions like, how has voting been historically in America, who s voted, who hasn t voted?” said Associate Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Political Science Professor Pearson Cross, Ph.D., one of the two facilitators for the event. ....
