Dr. Kayse Shrum will be the next president of Oklahoma State University.
Shrum is currently the president of OSU’s Center for Health Services. She is a former member of Gov. Kevin Stitt’s cabinet, as the Sec. of Science and Innovation.
After two days worth of lengthy deliberations, the OSU A&M Board of Regents selected Shrum out of four finalists.
She will be the university s 19th president and the first woman in the position.
I’m so honored and humbled by this appointment, Shrum said in the press conference that followed the board meeting. OSU has a special place in my heart, and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to lead this vibrant university and the OSU system into a successful future. ....

New Hampshire Democrats pressure Sununu over veterans home

(The Center Square) – Democrats are turning up the pressure on Republican Gov. Chris Sununu over his administration s handling of a COVID-19 outbreak at a veterans home that sickened nearly 200 and killed 37 elderly residents.
In a letter to Sununu’s office, New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley rips the governor s sham
report on the outbreak and requests documents related to the state’s response to the outbreak at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton and a report that cleared officials at the long-term care facility of wrongdoing.
Despite calls from New Hampshire veterans and civic leaders, you have failed to produce an independent report to examine what caused this outbreak, what could have prevented it, and what could have been done to protect our veterans during the outbreak, Buckley wrote in the March 25 letter. ....

Forsyth County could get $3 million from General Assembly for Belews Lake Park

A new Forsyth County park planned for the shores of Belews Lake is about as close to Reidsville or Greensboro as it is to Winston-Salem.
As a result, lawmakers from around the Triad are signing on to a bill that would appropriate $3 million from the state’s Parks and Recreation Trust Fund to further the development of the park.
The bill was filed March 29 by N.C. Rep. Donny Lambeth, R-Forsyth, but has drawn support from other lawmakers representing Stokes, Surry, Rockingham and Guilford counties, and even one from Durham County.
“While the property is in Forsyth County, it is really a regional opportunity for that part of the state,” Lambeth said, explaining the regional support the bill has drawn. ....

BILL CRAWFORD — GOP leadership seems witless on Medicaid math

BILL CRAWFORD
“Gov. Tate Reeves and Republican lawmakers who resist Medicaid expansion have for years said that Mississippi cannot afford to extend health-care coverage to the working poor. They obviously don’t bother to do the math.”
You see, the latest COVID relief package makes Medicaid expansion much more affordable.
State Sen. Hob Bryan, chairman of the Senate Public Health Committee, told Mississippi Today, “there will be more money in the state treasury if we expand Medicaid than if we don’t.”
State Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney explains. “The federal government puts up 80 cents of every dollar that we spend on Medicaid,” he told the Community Foundation for Mississippi’s local news collaborative. “If Mississippi were to expand, that amount would increase to 95 cents.” ....
