New York City police are expecting protesters to make an appearance at Wednesday night's Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony.
While hate crimes overall are down about 9 percent in NYC this year, the month of October saw 101 hate crimes - up from the 43 seen in September and 45 in October, 2022.
The force has stressed there is no specific threat to the city and they are merely taking these actions as a precaution. Their remarks came as protestors clashed in Washington Square park.
A police spokesperson says there are stepped up patrols in the park and around the neighborhood.
