AMD has witnessed its largest server market share jump with its EPYC CPUs in Q1 2021. In data published by Mercury Research (via CRN), it is reported that the chipmaker saw its largest share increase against Intel since 2006.

AMD’s Q1 Server Gain Against Intel Was Largest Since 2006
The last time AMD saw such a large jump in server CPU shipments was when its server market share peaked in 2006 with Opteron, according to Mercury Research. However, Intel continued to reverse AMD’s share growth in the overall x86 market for a second consecutive quarter, largely thanks to entry-level CPUs.

AMD saw its largest share gain yet against Intel in the server market with EPYC processors in the first quarter, the chipmaker’s highest single-quarter gain for server CPUs since 2006.
That’s according to the latest x86 CPU market share report from Mercury Research, which said that AMD’s server CPU share grew 1.8 points to 8.9 percent, reflecting the chipmaker’s report of strong EPYC sales and Intel’s decline in Data Center Group revenue for the first quarter. With the forthcoming launch of Intel’s next-generation Xeon Scalable processors, server maker Supermicro has opened up remote testing for customers who want to try out servers running the long-hyped chips also known as Ice Lake.
The San Jose, Calif.-based company announced Thursday that its JumpStart program for workload testing on Ice Lake-based Supermicro X12 systems began earlier this week, giving customers remote access to servers with the third-generation Xeon Scalable processors so that they can begin developing, validating, tuning and benchmarking advanced workloads. ....
