Impossible Foods Targets a $10 Billion Valuation

Impossible Foods Targets a $10 Billion Valuation
Posted April 13, 2021
The IPO rumor mill is swirling with news that Impossible Foods could be preparing for a $10 billion IPO. Yes, you read that right — $10 billion.
If you aren’t familiar with the company, it develops plant-based substitutes for meat products — similar to recently the IPO'd Beyond Meat (NASDAQ: BYND). You could say that Beyond Meat sort of started the craze for plant-based food alternatives and substitutes for meat products with its IPO. There weren't too many people talking about plant-based alternatives until the news of Beyond Meat’s market debut. Now, most grocery stores have a special (and growing) section for plant-based alternatives.

(Bloomberg) -- A European startup has started selling carbon credits for cattle raised on a feed supplement that reduces the amount of heat-trapping greenhouse gas they release.
Mootral, based in Switzerland and the U.K., says its garlic-and-citrus feed can cut methane emissions from livestock by an average of 30%. Under its offset program, a certified farmer thatâs produced milk using Mootralâs supplement can sell credits equal to one ton of carbon dioxide to customers that want to offset their pollution.

Livestock farming accounts for about 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions, largely from cows, sheep and other ruminants that emit methane, a gas that’s more than 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Agriculture is making inroads into the $320-million voluntary carbon market, particularly through more environmentally friendly farming, though demand has so far been limited.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had about 3 weeks ago announced the commencement of the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry registration exercise on April 8, 2021, to May 15, 2021, with National Identification Number (NIN) made mandatory at the point of registration.
This was put on hold due to the exam body’s effort to ensure that candidates have access to its registration app for the 2021 UTME/DE and also finalise work on its pin vending process before the take-off of the exercise.
However, in a new statement, the spokesperson for JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the registration for the examinations has now commenced in full swings as all the issues have been resolved.

Starbucks to convert former Burger King drive-thru on Fort Collins’ College Avenue
This story first ran on BizWest.com, a BusinessDen news partner.
Starbucks has started renovating the former Burger King location along South College Avenue in Fort Collins, giving it a second drive-thru along one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares.
A Starbucks spokesperson confirmed the construction to BizWest, saying it intends to open the 2,654-square-foot cafe and drive-thru at 4218 S. College Ave. this summer. It expects to employ approximately 15 staffers.
City records show a building permit was issued on Dec. 15 last year.
The store will be Starbucks’ second along South College Avenue, just less than 2.5 miles south of its existing location at 1708 S. College Ave. That area is known for heavy congestion due to drive-thru lines for the coffee shop and nearby fast-food restaurant Raising Canes spilling into the far-right lanes during peak hours.

Matt Gurney: Taiwan award a chance for Liberals to grow a spine on China file

For all its problems, Twitter does serve one purpose — it is an excellent aggregator of the collectively absurd.
Consider this week: on my feed surfaced tweets from the Canadian Armed Forces, boasting of our commitment to the Asia-Pacific region, where HMCS Calgary is on patrol in company with allied ships, including from Japan and Australia. There was also a series of tweets from global news agencies noting China’s increasingly aggressive posturing in the region, which this week saw dozens of Chinese warplanes violate Taiwanese airspace in an obvious attempt to intimidate the tiny island nation, which China considers a rogue sovereign territory.

Headlining March’s Nicer Tuesdays, we welcomed Raphael Abreu, global head of design for Restaurant Brands International (Burger King’s parent company) who talked us through the international fast food chain’s new rebrand. Dialling in from Miami, Rapha joined us for a Q&A with our editor-in-chief Matt Alagiah. He divulged the details of what goes into a complete visual overhaul across 18,000 different locations; no mean feat. One particularly meaty topic he delved into is Burger King’s move into the digital era, a huge undertaking which required a whole new way of creating thinking.

Forget Air Canada: This Stock Could Be Your Ticket to Gains in 2021

Air Canada(TSX:AC) has been trading hands rapidly over the past several months, as Canadian investors piled into the reopening stock in anticipation of the great reopening and the Roaring 2020s that could come into effect as soon as late 2021.
In numerous prior pieces, I’ve stated that Air Canada stock has outshined its U.S. peers, primarily because the federal government was more likely to have its back. Indeed, Air Canada got more federal relief this week. At $5.9 billion, the amount of financial support was not cheap.

The Burger King? A look at the maverick brand's sales during Fernando Machado's CMO reign

The Promotion Fix is an exclusive biweekly column for The Drum from Samuel Scott, a global keynote marketing speaker who is a former journalist, newspaper editor, and director of marketing and communications in the high-tech industry. Follow him @samueljscott.
On one hand, Burger King’s creative campaigns during the tenure of former CMO Fernando Machado received much acclaim, including top spot in the World Creative Rankings. On the other, some pundits dismissed the headline-making ads as mere stunts that did little to help the fast-food chain's bottom line. So, who was right? Columnist Samuel Scott investigates.
Burger King was number two, so Fernando Machado tried harder. But did the former chief marketing officer succeed? For this column, I compiled various sets of performance data and then interviewed Machado, who this week took up the marketing reins at Activision, for his thoughts.
