It's not exactly Christmas but it is a great joyful song that reveals the great joy that you and I have in Jesus Christ our Lord. You know as well make our way through the fruits of the Spirit as St Paul lists them and go as 5 you can guess that this next fruit of the spirit the 1st one was love the 2nd one here is joy and Paul writes to the Galatians lists in the fruits of fields as follows The fruit of the Spirit is the law of joy peace patient kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self-control you know as. As we think about Joy 1st of all we're going to think about love as love. Is the center of where joy comes from know that the fruit of love as you look at the fruit of law it's it's all centered in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and it's the place where we begin to walk by this spirit it's a soil in which all. I don't know if you intentionally or deliberately devoted yourself this week to walk by the spirit I hope you did that's the way we begin each day and as we go through the week and that's where we come back over and over again and as we are in God's word God's Spirit brings out about maybe your walk by the spirit went no further than your front door this week or maybe you were deliberate and intentional maybe you were out there knew you were sharing God's love with everyone sometimes we you know we try to share God's love with others and sometimes they don't want to accept that God wants us to know that it's not that they're not accepting you are I but they're not accepting God and God's free gets that's what he would want to know there and so you and I come here this very day as I'm speaking to you and as you're listening. To be reminded of how God loves each and every one of us how He loves us and how because of that love in Jesus Christ you and I have that relationship with God so that we may be refreshed and energized to go into love with that same love we have come here and God reminds us is fairy day of how he forgives us. And you know I don't want to think about it as I'm trying this I'm trying really hard but I keep feeling but you know it's got we come in the into God's Holy Presence we come here and he refreshes us as he forgives us as he strengthens us. As strange as it sounds that is how the fruit of the Spirit grows and. So what that means is this list of the fruit is all one fruit Wow It's pretty for prawn didn't as much as I'd like to say Ok here's the less you should strive to produce as many as possible this week of the fruits of the spirit I think if you and I could produce 5 out and I would be doing pretty well but that's not written here you know one way to understand what is written here when we talk about the fruit of the Spirit is Takeda about it and using the object of a diamond now so me ladies out there probably got some pretty pretty nice diamonds what some of you guys to a diamond has many facets ever known as that and there's so many of them and as you turn it each facet makes the diamond sparkle in a unique way but the whole diamond and when we look at the verse the Spirit is the love and all that follows the facets of love Ok so and the more perfect complete each facet is the more precious and complete our love is and it's all the work of the Holy Spirit who this morning this day this afternoon this evening we turn our attention to the facet of love called Joy frankly I'm a bit surprised Joy comes next on the list and you may be too you know I might have expected something more practical you know in our eyes such as patience and were kindness or gentleness or self-control we did to those we thought those were to come next but say Paul directs the glaciers to walk by the spirit and it's joy that precedes these things the more you think about the more it makes sense. That the Holy Spirit is bound to make sense there's a problem with love there's not a company by Joy How many times have you seen our maybe had dealt with deliberately intensely set out to love someone but they gave you the clear impression that they didn't really care what you thought or didn't want to have a relationship with you and you've gone out of your way and you've been sacrificing yourself in denying yourself for them. But since they feel this way they treat you this where they really didn't give you much joy in fact I I wonder how often we do these things for others with the spirit of sorrow regret when we should know them in the spirit of joy and delight and I wonder how often we find joy and delight in the things that we share while we should cause us sorrow and regret will do these things and we get you know and bring about being mixed up very easily let me explain it's a work of the Holy Spirit to straighten this out in us the spirit works to produce in sorrow and regret when we should feel sorrow and regret and the work of the Spirit is to produce joy and delight when we are to feel joy in the light that's the work of the Spirit in us and that's called conversion so let me see if I got this right we come into the so world with faulty wiring. How many of you got faulty wiring out there that you've dealt with before you know you think about it. However it went out because it it had a place where it shut itself off when they found out later that the wiring that was in that fuse box was faulty and notice that's how we are when we are brought into the world we have faulty wiring that is we have our old original sinful nature that is we are lost in our sins we are under the reign of the devil and we are bound for eternal death but the Holy Spirit comes and he rewires us he reruns us through baptism he rewires us through the Word of God He McGuire's us of business faith forgiveness and life here was a so that we can act and respond as we are meant to do and when we do the works of the flesh and there's a bunch of listed by says by St Paul I can list some ome for you sexual morality impurity sensuality idolatry saucer e m a t strife jealousy fits of anger rivalries dissensions divisions envy drunkenness orgies and the like he says that these things are apart from the Spirit the Spirit has no connection to any of these things any of these things is from our original nature. You know if we find joy in these things then where we're living a life that's apart from the spirit we're not living a life in the spirit however if and when we should do any of these things the Spirit works in you and me he works in us to produce grief and knowledge grief but sorrow and this grief and sorrow leads us to repent while in the original context to feel sorry for what we've done what we've said how we've lived the things that we should have said we didn't say and the things we should have done we didn't do and so when this happens we find that there's that forgiveness that comes about as we can fast and we receive that forgiveness so as that takes place when you and I see others doing these kind of things and finding joint delight in these things we find that while we can't share in that joy what the things we see others doing what it does to us is it causes you and causes me sorrow and it causes us to feel sad for them but certainly sorrow is not the ultimate goal of the spirit these are not listed among the fruit of the spirit these are the means to the end Saint Paul writes to the Corinthians for godly grief produces that leads repentance that leads to salvation without regret 2nd Corinthians Chapter 7 verse 10. Out of grief we feel for the for the sin that we do and the Spirit leads us to full forgiveness he needs us to complete redemption and that complete redemption comes through Jesus Christ who has won for us this through his sufferings through his death and through his resurrection which produces in you and me joy and that giving us that salvation the Spears also not afraid when you think about the Holy Spirit to bring us to tears that we also my have those tears in that he might wipe those tears away and turn our sorrow into joy a joy that is rooted and grown in the law of God through Jesus Christ our Lord you know one of the example of this comes in 2nd Samuel chapter 12 and here we are presented with King David it has a wonderful example of just this kind of conversion that the Holy Spirit works in us repeatedly through his prophet Nathan the Holy Spirit turned David from a search for joy in the works of the flash to search for joy in the spirit in a wonderful way Nathan showed David that he was finding joy in what we should find sorrow in and David can fast I have sinned against the Lord and David's pastor responded without delay the Lord has put away yours then and built its heart his mind his so his very life was rainy wired so that now he saw Joy where true joy is to be found. And he said in some 51 verse 10 through 12. Create in me a clean heart oh God and renew a right spirit within me can ask me not away from your presence and take not your Holy Spirit from me restored to me the joy of your salvation and up hold me with a willing spirit in the same way from the opposite direction but the same ideal when we sorrow in things in which we should rejoice the Holy Spirit works in eyes to convert us. No one is saying that this conversion is easy or painless it's not easy to lay down your life for a neighbor and be joyful about it it's quite painful to sacrifice ourselves for someone else's good and then if those whom we intensely set out to love like this are unappreciative or take advantage of our love it's natural that we feel resentful which up or sometimes even anger so it's completely a natural thing to love joyfully but that's when this happens when this happens we find that it comes from one place where we still love joyful even though this is all taken place it's a supernatural fruit of the spirit that is working in us you know another good example here is Paul and Silas and they were in the faith Philip pie and they had been arrested and thrown into prison for preaching about the love of God and Jesus Christ rather than being resent for bitter St Luke reports that they were praying and singing hymns to God from their prison cell their joy was not rooted in a prescience in recognition of whom they loved it was rooted in the love of Jesus Christ for them. It is from his prison so that Saint Paul writes to the flippin telling them to rejoice in the Lord always I will say it again rejoice the lippy and chapter 4 verse 4 James writes to the church saying and about this and James chapter one verse to cut it all joy my brothers and sisters whenever you meet trials of various kinds Jesus preaches to the crowds around him sandblasted are you when others revolver you and persecute you another all kinds of evil against you fall asleep on my account rejoice and be glad and so as God brings us into his myth this very day and as he fills us with this joy of the spirit we find that this takes place because of the relationship we have and because the work that's been accomplice by Jesus Christ for you and for me as we receive the forgiveness of sins as we receive life inside of a sion in his name Jesus says Truly truly I say to you you will be sorrowful but your sorrow would turn into joy and know it take that from you rejoice that your names are written in heaven rejoice in the hope and the glory of God So this is the joy the joy that God gives us each and every day the joy of living our lives in Jesus Christ a life in which we get to share this day in every day with those whom God puts in our meds joy to the world the Lord is come our Savior rains repeat the sounding Joy I repeat the sounding joy and so this very day God fills us with that joy that surpasses all understanding as we live our lives in Jesus Christ our Lord Amen and now me the peace of God would surpasses all understanding guard your hearts and your mind in Christ Jesus to life everlasting Almon. How do you get rid of thirst unless you drink right you can't just ignore it. For a while you can but you know so that romantic attraction is very hard to distinguish. It just doesn't want to go away so it's associated them with these neurotransmitter that stimulate their release of testosterone. Now ready to take a little turn here because attachment. Connection with a person as a person is produced by hormones and we're talking about neurotransmitters now we're going to talk about hormones and the specific hormones that it's that bad it's connected with our oxytocin and vasopressin Now I don't know how many of you are waiting recent research but there's a lot of research going on right now.
