张洪刚介绍称，天府机场投运初期，将重点打造国内中转航线网络，连接京津冀、长三角、粤港澳大湾区等世界级机场群核心机场航线；同时，天府机场还将协同包括高铁、城市轻轨在内的地面路网，利用航空优势促进资源要素聚集，带动成渝地区中部区域，如遂宁、南充等地的发展。
虽然在第一航季没有安排国际航班，但定位为“成都国际航空主枢纽”的成都天府国际机场未来仍是成都对外开放的重要门户。张洪刚表示，成都是欧亚航线的中间点，去往欧洲和东南亚拥有明显优势。如果没有疫情影响，成都天府国际机场国际航线拥有130多个航点，连接欧洲、东南亚、美洲以及日本、韩国，“当前我们正与国外航空公司保持联系，希望在疫情得到控制的情况下，尽快恢复国际航班。”
