Albert Lea receives grant for Blazing Star Landing cleanup

(ABC 6 News) - Tuesday, the City of Albert Lea announced that its the recipient of a Contamination Cleanup and Investigation Grant from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. The City was awarded $1.4 million to assist in the remediation of contaminated soils at the Blazing Star Landing, site of former Farmstead Foods. The grant will cover 75% of the project costs.
Unique Opportunities of Fergus Falls, MN, plans to develop a 48 unit apartment complex on the area south of the railroad tracks. The City also created a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district to assist with funding the project.
