The top court said its 2018 judgment striking down Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code was not concerned with the provisions of the armed forces Acts.
Stressing that discipline is of "paramount importance" in the armed forces, the court observed that adultery will shake up discipline in the forces and as such, they must have a mechanism to punish officers found guilty of the offence.
