It is 1 February and FIDE has published their new World Ranking List. There have been some changes in the rankings, mainly due to the results of the tournaments in Wijk aan Zee, but Carlsen, Caruana and Nakamura continue to lead the world rankings despite not having played a FIDE rated game in January. Ju Wenjun has moved back into second place behind Hou Yifan in the women's rankings.
Melikset Khachiyan and Alice Lee secured victories at the US Seniors Championship and the US Girls Championship respectively. In the Junior Championship, five players still have a chance to win the title. The 2023 National High School (K-12) Championship (NHS) took place from March 31-April 2 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. A record-setting 1,745 players from 38 states attended topping the previous record of 1,713 players set at our 2019 event; the number could have been higher but the number had to be capped due to space concerns. The first NHS was held in 1969.
