Clad in his running kit, a pair of gloves the only concession to the January cold, Isaac Slight jogs round the track at the Bill Whistlecroft Athletics Arena. The 14-year-old, a promising pole vaulter, trains at the venue, in Yeovil, Somerset, every Tuesday and Thursday evening, rain or shine, year round and throughout the school holidays. This summer’s Paris Olympics have come too soon for him, but the gifted athlete has Los Angeles 2028 firmly in his sights.
