Fairfield City Council Recap from 5/9/2023

The Fairfield City Council held their first May meeting and the last meeting for outgoing Aldermen Tyler Lampley and Jerry Lisinbee. Both Aldermen were presented with a token of appreciation for their years of service to the City of Fairfield. Mayor Gary Moore was also presented a token of appreciation for his service as Alderman. In the only item of business for the outgoing council, a rezoning request for properties on West Court and West Main was approved. These properties will become the new Christopher Rural Health Planning Corporation medical building. A Public Hearing was held prior to the council meeting. At this point, the 2 new aldermen, Sheryl Eckleberry and Bruce McKibben were seated and the oath of office was administered to all newly elected officials. The new council then got down to new business with several housekeeping items being taken care of. The first action item was to award a bid for the demolition of the old water tower on West Main St. 2 bids were received, with Iseler Demolition Inc. of Port Hope, MI. submitting the winning bid of $63,300. Mayor Moore said that it would be some time before the demolition took place due to the new tower having to be brought online and tested. The council approved an expenditure of $7,000 for the City Band Concerts this Summer. Alderman Sheryl Eckleberry voted No on the request. 2 TIF requests were unanimously approved, both for $6,000. The first was Feed My Sheep, who are installing a pitched roof and the second was Doug Wilson, who is also installing a pitched roof on his property at 4th and East Delaware. Alyssa Short, a partner in Blessed Blooms Flower Farm LLC made a presentation before the council, highlighting the plans for their newly acquired property at 1618 West Main St. The council will act at a future meeting on a $15,000 Revolving Loan Request for the new business. The city's 2 new police Officers, Kyle Craft and Logan McGuire, were introduced to those in attendance and received a warm welcome.

Sidney's new water tower is up, old one coming down

Sidney's new water tower is up, old one coming down
A new water tower is up at Sidney, and an older one is coming down
Earlier this month, the Sidney City Council accepted a bid from Iseler Demolition of Port Hope, Mich., for the demolition of the city’s former tower.
Anne Travis with the City Council said the decision had to be made because of health concerns. The old one was rusty, and the city needed a bigger one to serve more people.
The new tower will help with water pressure in town, provide for expansion, and ensure pureness of water.
