Sitting at his house in Surat, where Sumerabanu had been staying since her separation from her husband in 2021, her father Hanif Malek (67) said, “If I had known that my daughter was involved in such activities, I would have thrown her out of the house.”
The accused was supposed to manage the logistics of the three arrested men to employ themselves on a boat as labourers and eventually feliciate their escape to Afghanistan via Iran, officials said.

The Gujarat ATS team mounted a close watch at the railway station at Porbandar and detained three of the four accused on Friday morning. Upon interrogation, it was revealed the accused were on set to reach the "Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan via Iran".
