Lagos trains journalists on COVID-19 response, tasks on fact checking

Lagos State Ministry of Health in partnership with Lafiya Project trained selected journalists in the state on COVID-19 response while charging them in objective and professional reporting.
Themed, “Gender and Social Inclusion in COVID-19 Response: The Role of the Media,” the training programme was held on Thursday at the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Banquet Hall, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, who was represented at the event by the Incident Manager, COVID-19 Lagos Response, Dr Ismail Abdulsalam, raised the alarm over the second wave of COVID-19 cases.
He informed that, the Lagos state since mid-October is experiencing an increasing rate in the number of COVID-19 cases. ....

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, yesterday, raised the alarm over a spike in COVID-19 cases, saying that majority of the new cases are at a point where little assistance can be rendered.
This came on a day the Niger State Government ordered the closure of public and private schools, as well as tertiary institutions across the state, with effect from today.
Professor Abayomi hinted that since mid-October, the state has been experiencing a very sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, with most of them requiring oxygen and intensive care.
The commissioner stated this during a media training on COVID-19 response, with the theme: ‘Gender and Social Inclusion in COVID-19 Response: The Role of the Media’’, organized by the state Ministry of Health in collaboration with Lafiya Projects. ....

The Nigerian Medical Association on Thursday said that the Nigerian Communications Commission’s fresh directive on   the national identification number  could lead to a spike  in COVID-19 cases.
The NCC had on Tuesday directed telephone companies to deactivate telephone lines of users who failed to link their NIN to subscribers’ identification modules within two weeks.
Findings by one of our correspondents showed that the country had witnessed an increase in COVID-19 cases as 5,809 people were infected between December 7 and December 16.
Advising Nigerians on gatherings at the NIN registration centres, the NMA  President, Professor Innocent Uja in an interview with The PUNCH, said more people could be infected at the NIN centres if they disregarded safety protocols. ....
