The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has postponed the first test launch of the Gaganyaan space mission. The test was intended to ensure the safety of the future crew. The launch was delayed multiple times and eventually put on hold. The test involved the crew module, which is designed to provide a safe environment for the crew during descent and landing. The Gaganyaan mission is expected to launch in 2025 and aims to send three crew members into space for three days. India will become the fourth nation to launch a manned spaceflight mission.
Purpose of the TV-D1 mission is to demonstrate the crew escape system for Gaganyaan, through a test vehicle demonstration, said ISRO Chief S Somnath
Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on the test flight's success. The test validated the crew escape system's capability to move astronauts to safety in case of adverse conditions after launch. Singh also revealed India's ambitions to establish an Indian Space Station by 2035 and send the first Indian to the moon by 2040.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will conduct a crew module test as part of its Gaganyaan programme, which aims to send humans into space for a three-day mission. The test will involve the launch of a single-stage liquid propulsion rocket called the Test Vehicle (TV-D1), which will carry a crew module to an altitude of 17 km before making a safe touchdown in the Bay of Bengal. The success of this test flight will pave the way for further qualification tests and unmanned missions, with the goal of launching the Gaganyaan programme with Indian astronauts in 2025.
