The six-week ban in Ohio is still a law, and enforcement has been stopped only temporarily.
The EGOT-winning singer comes out in support of Issue 1, which would codify abortion rights in the state constitution.
Dr. Martin Haskell, the inventor of the partial-birth abortion procedure, donated $100,000 to an Ohio ballot measure that would scrap all limits to abortion in the state.
Still, religious lobbies and anti-abortion rights groups that oppose the amendment have used that message as one of their primary arguments against the measure since the effort to get it on the ballot began.
