Keola Beamer & Henry Kapono These Hawaiian music legends were both at the creative forefront as Hawaiian music reinvented itself in the 70s. They have continued to lead the way for over four decades.
The Magic Lantern Concert Series: Heat Speak, Rosie CQ When stages shut down in 2020, Live from Somewhere stepped up to give Spokane musicians a place to play. The group’s video series took local acts to atypical spots around town — from a record store to dusty back lots — to play their music and capture the performance with cinematic flair. Now, Live from Somewhere is stepping into the actual live music space, launching a new monthly concert series at The Magic Lantern. The venue is a perfect fit given what the series values: local connection, unusual music spaces and a fine...
Lomelda, alexalone When is one band actually two bands? Austin-based indie songwriters Hannah Read and Alex Peterson provide the answer. The duo share the same five-piece band with one of them stepping back to a supporting role when the other one leads. Read leads Lomelda, whose soft songs take a slightly off-kilter melodic approach centered on her delicate, open-hearted warble. Peterson writes similarly tender songs for alexalone, but presents them as far noisier rock tunes. Together, acts tread similar ground with the same folks, while offering two different sonic tastes that pair great toge...

The Tour After making hair bows “a thing” and returning from her stint on Dancing with the Stars, JoJo Siwa is taking North America by storm with a 30-something-stop concert tour. JoJo, who made her debut on Dance Moms when she was 11 years old, has always been a favorite of younger kids with her uber bubbly personality and eccentric outfits; however, she reached a broader audience last January after coming out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Her songs are upbeat, catchy and, honestly, downright addictive. D.R.E.A.M. The Tour kicks off ...
Vivian Leva and Riley Calcagno The first weeks of January 2022 are an absolute dead zone for concerts. Seemingly nothing is happening. Thankfully, Vivian Leva and Riley Calcagno are here to prevent January from starting out totally concert-free. The young folk singer-songwriter duo’s 2021 self-titled debut LP rings out with warm rootsy harmonies. Both musicians were raised in the Appalachian musical tradition, and it can definitely be heard in the Southern lilt of Leva’s Virginian vocals. Starting the year with the optimistic spirit of some Americana tuneage is never a bad option.
