The fan membership platform Patreon is beginning to roll out a chat feature, connecting creators directly with their fanbase in a group message. The offering will become available to some creators today, but will spread more broadly within the coming months. Patreon has long had an integration with Discord, which automatically adds patrons at certain membership tiers to a paywalled Discord server (so long as the patron has their Discord account linked to Patreon).

Patreon is adding a Discord-like chat feature to its app, as well as custom user profiles. The in-app chat feature will exist in addition to the Discord integration.

As before, the venerable jazz festival enlisted pop (in this generation hip-hop, rap, etc) to help attract younger punters into the jazz fold

The Los Angeles-based funk collective Scary Goldings are looking forward to recreating the collaboration they magically captured on their forthcoming live album Scary Goldings LIVE! feat. John Scofield due out on September 8th, at the Newport Jazz Festival on Sunday August 6th at 1:40pm at the Fort Stage.

With performances from musicians like Melvis Santa, The Soul Rebels and James Brandon Lewis, this year's Newport Jazz Festival will be one for the books. WBUR contributor Noah Schaffer highlights a few of this year's new acts.
