Archaeologists in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, believe they have uncovered Revolutionary War barracks, as officials prepared to break ground for a new sports complex.

According to Colonial Williamsburg, 18th century maps of the area and other documents make reference to a barracks that had been constructed beginning in 1776 to accommodate up to 2,000 soldiers and 100 horses.
Estimated to have been built in the last third of the 1600s, the structure is one of only about 10 Middle Plantation buildings found within the vicinity of the city’s historic area.
